It’s Official! Boys & Girls Club of Sidney Part of Guinness World Record for Games of Tag

For one day in April, children across the country chased each other around gyms and infields playing games of Tag all in an effort to stay healthy and fit and to have fun.  In doing so, members of Boys & Girls Club of Sidney helped officially set the Guinness World Record for Most Participants in a Game of Tag during a 24-Hour period (Multiple Venues).  The record-breaking news comes after months of anticipation.  The nationwide effort was held between April 19 and 20 in conjunction with the annual weeklong observation of National Boys & Girls Club Week

Boys & Girls Club of Sidney contributed 35 participants to the official multi-venue total of 20,541. The organization was one of 335 Clubs who took part in the attempt.  The games of Tag were part of the Major League Baseball WANNA PLAY?™ program conducted by Boys & Girls Clubs across the country and on U.S. military installations overseas. WANNA PLAY?™  is  a multi-faceted initiative dedicated to youth fitness, that encourages boys and girls ages, 6 to 12, to increase their overall fitness and nutrition education through physical activity while learning the fundamental skills of baseball and softball through fun and engaging activities.   This is a top priority for every Boys & Girls Club daily.

"We firmly believe that young people must be active, stay healthy and above all else have fun to create a truly great future,” said James Tweedie, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Sidney  "We are very proud of our Club members who took the world record challenge seriously, enabling this new record to be set.”

The achievement was officially announced at a special WANNA PLAY? event and skills clinic held prior to Game 3 of the World Series in Detroit, MI.
